The Halo development team has issued a correction regarding a previous claim that PlayStation Plus was required for local co-op split-screen play on the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved for PS5. As it turns out, like most games, local co-op does not require PlayStation Plus access.
The correction came from social media after many fans questioned why a PlayStation Plus subscription would be necessary for local co-op play.
No PS Plus Needed for Halo: Campaign Evolved Local Co-Op
In the June Q&A post on the Halo Waypoint website, the developers erroneously stated: “If you’re playing split-screen on PlayStation 5, both accounts will need to have PlayStation Plus and be linked to a Microsoft account.” Since then, they’ve apologized for the error and confirmed that they meant each local player must have a PlayStation account, not a PS Plus subscription. However, what hasn’t changed is the need for PlayStation users to have an active Microsoft account and XBOX Gamertag.

Halo: Campaign Evolved pre-orders went live on June 7 ahead of its July 28 release. This marks the first time the Xbox flagship IP will appear on PlayStation. The game was announced for Sony’s platform before Xbox began to reconsider its exclusivity strategy.
