The Police’s Stewart Copeland Confirms He Isn’t Working on New Spyro

The Police drummer Stewart Copeland has confirmed he is not composing music for the next Spyro game currently in development.

The next Spyro the Dragon game was announced during the June 2026 XBOX Showcase. While it aims to draw fans from the original trilogy, the game’s critically acclaimed composer will not be returning for the title.

New Spyro Game Will Not Feature Music by Stewart Copeland

Stewart Copeland is best known as the drummer of The Police, but after the band disbanded, he went on to compose movie scores and dipped his toe into video games with the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy. Copeland was the composer for all three of the Spyro games on the original PlayStation.

He was recently interviewed by The Independent about his career and the forthcoming documentary. During the interview, he was asked if he was returning to compose Spyro: A Realm Beyond. He confirmed he would not be returning for the 2027 game. Still, he seems to bear no ill will toward not being asked to work on the game.

“It happens that way,” he said. “It’s a new generation. They want a new generation of sound and everything… they’ve got to modernize it. No harm, no foul.”

Very little of the game was shown during the original reveal. Toys For Bob is excited for players to try out the game and hopes it’s true to the original trilogy. However, they were not ready to share too many details.

Do you think this game would be better off hiring Stewart Copeland? Do you have many fond memories of the Spyro the Dragon soundtracks? Sound off about this story and all others in our official Discord server.
