Supergiant Games has done it again with Hades 2. The roguelike retains the magic and aura of Hades 1, but manages to reinvent itself in fresh new ways to the extent that Hades 2 is now the highest-rated game of 2025—and has scored better than its predecessor.
Hades 1 is an all-time great, which makes Hades 2‘s current feat remarkable. The original adventure took us every step of the way with Zagreus—son of Zeus and Persephone—and the sequel shifts the focus to Melinoë, his sister. Any doubts about Hades 2 not being able to live up to the sky-high expectations of the original have been quickly dispelled and laughed at by critics.
Hades 2 Overtakes Hades 1 With Metacritic Review Scores

Hades 2 has banished doubts to the Underworld, as it currently has Metacritic scores of 95/100 on Nintendo Switch and PC, and 94/100 for the Nintendo Switch 2. There’s no PS5 or Xbox version yet, and if they do happen, they might be later down the line.
For now, let’s concentrate on the Nintendo Switch and PC. The review sample isn’t extensive, and more reviews are likely to come in; however, even in a worst-case scenario where Hades 2’s Metacritic score drops, it would likely still match Hades 1’s universal score of 93/100.
What this means (as of writing) is that Hades 2 is now 2025’s highest-rated game. It’s sitting pretty at the top, and looking down on close contemporaries such as the award-winning Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and indie hit Blue Prince.
Time will tell if Hades 2 can hold onto its crown. There are still plenty of games to come in 2025. Do you think Hades 2 could be a larecomer to the Game of the Year party and gobble up awards left, right, and center? Head to the Insider Gaming forum and let us know.
