The Game Awards 2026 has pretty much hinged on the ‘will it, won’t it’ nature of Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Games’ mega-hyped GTA 6 could potentially sweep most awards it’s up for, and now it’s confirmed the game has just made the cut-off.
Outside of the bloat and pomp of The Game Awards, it’s become gaming’s biggest awards night. Viewership and profitability seem to increase year-on-year, and you can expect this to get wilder with news that Rockstar Games and GTA 6 are eligible for the show.
The Game Awards 2026 Will Include GTA 6

Check out The Game Awards 2026’s ‘Cutoff Date for Eligibility’ information:
‘Games must be made commercially available to customers on or before Friday, November 20, 2026, at 9 p.m. PT. In the Players’ Voice category, games must ship on or before November 30, 2026.’
As most of the world knows at this point, Grand Theft Auto 6 finally launches on November 19. It won’t be delayed again, especially not this late, and not even the exhausting list of GTA 6 leaks can derail the game at this point.

Based on last year’s categories, GTA 6 could potentially be up for the following awards:
- Best in Accessibility
- Best Action Game
- Best Performance
- Best Art Direction
- Best Score/Music
- Best Audio Design
- Best Narrative
- Best Game Direction
- Game of the Year
New categories could be added, and there might even be other niches the game can slide into; who knows. Unless GTA 6 somehow ends up being a catastrophic failure, it would be a shock if the game doesn’t scoop up a handful of awards.
We’ve been spoiled in 2026, one of the better years for gaming, but GTA 6’s inclusion could be a hammer blow to the chances of other titles: Resident Evil Requiem, Control Resonant, Big Walk, Forza Horizon 6, Mina the Hollower, Pokémon Pokopia, and so many others.
