Grand Theft Auto 6’s influence on the gaming industry is seismic. According to expert Jason Schreier, companies are continuing to worry about releasing games, and Rockstar might not even stick to its May 2026 launch window.
We’re learning about the stranglehold GTA 6 has on the industry daily now. We recently learned from Hideo Kojima that GTA 6 affected release dates throughout the industry, and even EA’s Battlefield has had an eye on GTA 6.
But no one is safe just yet.
Don’t Rule Out Another Grand Theft Auto 6 Delay
In a new report for Bloomberg, industry expert and analyst Jason Schreier has commented on the recent GTA 6 delay and why developers and publishers are still stressed about its new release date.
“For other companies, Grand Theft Auto VI slipping was cause for panic. One developer working on a big multiplayer game told me that they had previously delayed their release date from Fall 2025 to Spring 2026. That was mostly because the game needed more time, but also to get away from GTA VI.“
He says companies are now “caught in a vise.” Simply, because Rockstar has delayed GTA 6 once, there’s now a precedent, and another delay is one business decision away.
Schreier says other companies could delay again to miss the new May 2026 release date, but then GTA 6 could be delayed again. He says: “There’s no guarantee that May 2026 is a sure thing.“

You would think R* would give themselves MORE time than they think they need to finish the game, rendering a second delay completely unnecessary. I don’t think another delay is likely at all.
