Activision CMO says that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake isn’t counted among the two biggest games of the year, which are GTA 6 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Some of the most anticipated game releases of 2026 are scheduled for the latter half of the year. Two titles generating a lot of buzz are GTA 6 and the Ocarina of Time Remake, with comparisons being made to the viral 2023 release of Oppenheimer and Barbie: Barbieheimer. However, Activision’s CMO believes the Zelda franchise cannot compete with major titles like MW4 and GTA 6.
Activision CMO Doesn’t See Zelda As Competition for GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4
In a new interview with The Game Business, Activision CMO Tyler Bahl said GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4 are the biggest games of the year. When asked about Ocarina of Time Remake and GTA 6 being the most popular titles right now, Bahl responded, “Well, no offense to Zelda, but [GTA and COD] are the two biggest games of the year.”
Bahl also discussed how GTA 6 will help Modern Warfare 4 sales too, as a game like that will not only bring players back to their XBOX and PlayStation consoles, but also new ones, which means more eyeballs for Modern Warfare 4 too.

Bahl also discussed that Call of Duty has been such a long-standing franchise for two reasons: the community and social experience. Through their research, they have realized the most exciting thing about their games is not gunplay, but “actually spending time with friends.”
