Gray Zone Warfare’s 0.5 ‘Rogue Ops’ Update Can Turn You Into a Drug Baron

If you ever thought a person in love with a tactical sandbox shooter couldn’t masquerade as a cutthroat drug baron, you’d better think again. Gray Zone Warfare’s Rogue Ops update is about to drop, pushing the game into the realms of 0.5 and moving things from pre-alpha to alpha.

At the heart of Rogue Ops sits a new hideout mechanic, and within that hideout sits the ability to craft things. Given where you are and what opportunities have befallen you, it might come as no surprise to learn that what you can craft is cold, hard narcotics.

But only if you want to.

Gray Zone Warfare Meets Breaking Bad

When Rogue Ops hits Gray Zone Warfare, it’ll empower users to start earning more, equipping them with the funds and technology they need to eventually push into the epicentre of Lamang – Ground Zero. As you can imagine, it’s set to be a rather expensive endeavour, and you’ll need to be rich in both cash and relationships.

That’s why Rogue Ops, the 0.5 update, is all about passive income.

You’ll be able to establish a new hideout with Rogue Ops, and one of the facilities in that hideout is a chem lab, which can be equipped with all the necessary tools to manufacture drugs. Now, you can either take a positive path and work with Lab Rat to supply struggling clinics and facilities around the world with things like morphine.

Or you can team up with Vulture and manufacture hard-hitting narcotics, like heroin, distributing them around the world and making beaucoup bucks. But, of course, everything comes at a cost.

If you make and transport heroin, you’ll make bank and slip yourself into Vulture’s good books, at the cost of a reputation hit with Lab Rat. Also, if you decide to run drugs across the game, you’ll face the wrath of Banshee, who wants to see these malicious operators scrubbed from Lamang.

But that in itself presents another opportunity. If you work for Banshee, you can get out there and hunt those carrying their expensive, nasty packages around the game world. You’ll either become the DEA or Pablo Escobar.

You’ll be Walter White or Hank Schrader.

It’s a sweet update that’s fully representative of the kind of world MADFINGER Games has built in Gray Zone Warfare, and what’s incredible is that it’s only one half of Rogue Ops.

The other half concerns a ‘Micro Lab’ that can be used to break down and salvage abandoned technology and relics procured from the open world around you. If you want, you can work with Artisan to do good things with this technology, or you can partner with Turncoat to take that technology and sell it for immense gains on the black market.

Again, it’s a question of morality, and it adds such depth to an already expansive tactical shooter.

This is what MADFINGER Games meant by this being the ‘second gameplay loop’ in Gray Zone Warfare. There will be three loops in total, and this drug-running, tech-hoarding update represents a move into the second loop.
