XBOX has endured a turbulent year, and the release of Gears of War: E-Day comes fresh off the back of another slew of layoffs, including some that affected the title’s developer, The Coalition.

The review embargo for Gears of War: E-Day ends on Thursday, October 1, 2026, which will result in the drop of reviews and first impressions.
E-Day officially releases on October 6, so the review embargo lifts five days prior, although early access begins on October 2, and some players won’t have to wait long for the doors to open for them to play after the embargo lifts.
Expectations are high for the title given the long-term success of the franchise, though fans are certainly hoping E-Day will roll things back to the early days of Gears of War.
The first three Gears of War games all scored above 91 on Metacritic, the highest being the original title with 94, while the fourth and fifth entries in the series both landed at 84. Gears of War: Reloaded, the most recent release in the franchise, hit a score of 79.

Reviews for Gears of War: E-Day will go live at 6 AM PT/9 AM ET/2 PM BST on October 1, ahead of the early access launch.
The timing is a crucial one, as it lands one hour before Gears of War: E-Day is slated to release into early access for those who splashed out on the privilege.
That means that, if you’re impressed by the reviews, you can purchase the Premium Edition and play very soon after you finish reading reviews of the game.
