We have some good news in an industry filled with so much negativity. Developers at Bit Reactor, the studio behind Star Wars Zero Company, are returning to work for the studio after being furloughed just before the game’s release.
In a new report from Stephen Totilo and Game File, the Maryland-based studio says “more” of the staff are returning to work after the success of the game.
Bit Reactor CEO Greg Foertsch called the returns “an important step forward in our continued support of Zero Company.”
Returns Over A Month In The Making
As Insider Gaming previously reported, and first reported by Totilo, up to 80% of the studio was furloughed—remaining employees but without pay or benefits—at the end of August. The decision came as the studio’s funding was running out as the game’s release approached.
At the time, only a “skeleton crew” remained to address post-launch bugs.
Now, Foertsch said the team means “a tremendous amount” to him, and that he’s proud of what was accomplished with the game.
“Having to ask team members to step away after we navigated unexpected business developments outside of our control and so close to launch was an incredibly difficult decision, but one that was necessary to help us eventually bring as many people back as possible,” he said.
“Thank you to our fans for the incredible response to the game and for supporting us along this journey. We look forward to sharing more updates regarding Bit Reactor and Zero Company soon.”
As far as how many people are being brought back, Totilo reports that the studio’s headcount sits just over half of what it was at the time of the furloughs.
