FTC Drops Case Against Microsoft’s Purchase Of Activision Blizzard

The years-long saga surrounding Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard has officially come to an end as the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has dropped its case against the deal. The request for dismissal comes just weeks after the FTC’s injunction request against the deal was denied.

“The Commission has determined that the public interest is best served by dismissing the administrative litigation in this case,” the filing reads. “Accordingly, it is hereby ordered that the Complaint in this matter be, and it hereby is, dismissed.”

“Today’s decision is a victory for players across the country and for common sense in Washington, D.C,” Microsoft president Brad Smith posted on social media. “We are grateful to the FTC for today’s announcement.”

With the dismissal, attempts to block Microsoft’s $68.7 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard have come to an end. The deal was originally closed in October 2023, months after Microsoft initially won its case against the FTC. The FTC appealed the ruling just days after it was made.
