Friendslop is now a dictionary-defined term, thanks to the recent rampant popularity of the concept. This year has brought about a staggering rise in the number of friendslop games making it to market, aided by the seeming desire for everyone to play with everyone else in a range of increasingly bizarre environments.
Collins has defined friendslop, along with a bunch of other slang terms, and it’s officially listed in the Collins English Dictionary, published by HarperCollins. What is the world coming to?
Friendslop Games Are Taking Over
Collins is one of the most well-known dictionary resources in the world, and what it says is often taken as gospel when it comes to definitions. One of the newest additions to the Collins English Dictionary is friendslop, which the platform defines as:
A type of low-budget, indepedently produced video game, designed to be played casually with a group of friends.
That about sums it up, I’d say.
In the last few months, we’ve seen friendslop games running wild, and some of them have managed to soar up the sales charts with reckless abandon.
The best examples of friendslop games?
- Sledding Game
- R.E.P.O.
- Content Warning
- Escape the Backrooms
- Big Walk
- PEAK
- RV There Yet
- Among Us
- Escape from Playtime
- Lethal Company
There are a fair few.
Admittedly, I had a giggle hearing Collins’ AI-driven text-to-speech service utter the term ‘friendslop’.
Per the dictionary, the term friendslop is derived from ‘friend’ and ‘slop’, which comes as a total surprise (!).
