Behaviour Interactive Doubles Down on Dead by Daylight ‘Peanut’ Situation

Behaviour Interactive has again taken to social media to address the ongoing situation involving TheBurntPeanut and the recent Twitch stream scandal. Last weekend, the streamer walked into a sour spot when a Behaviour Interactive employee gifted him all the Dead by Daylight DLC during a stream, suggesting the company could take the heat it would bring.

It all follows a single slur uttered by TheBurntPeanut several months ago during an Escape from Tarkov stream, which has caused many to follow him ever since, haranguing him and trying to prevent him from getting partnered spots and other opportunities.

Behaviour Talks About TheBurntPeanut Again

In a four-part breakdown uploaded to social media, Dead by Daylight’s developer, Behaviour Interactive, decided to ‘follow up’ on their apology, answering the community’s most pressing questions about the entire situation.

It was explained that they awarded TheBurntPeanut all the DLCs for Dead by Daylight and started engaging in his chat before doing ‘due diligence’ to decide ‘if this was a good idea.’ They said it happened quickly and outside their usual team discussions, suggesting it was a lone employee acting outside their station.

They then explained something critical:

We did not have stringent enough processes and guardrails internally to prevent from directly granting in-game items to players without larger consensus and approval. Our team member acted without a supporting systme behind them to guide them to another outcome.

In the Twitch chat under TheBurntPeanut’s stream, the employee in question stated, ‘WE CAN TAKE THE HEAT’ when it was pointed out by Peanut that their ‘favoritism’ wouldn’t be taken kindly by the community.

This messaage, along with some others in that session, showed a disregard for the context we were suddenly in and crossed the line of appropriate responses from our brand. That reply escalated the situation for us and for our community, especially our content creators on the frontlines of these conversations, and that’s unacceptable.

Users were quick to point out in the comments that the employee who brought all this down upon Behaviour Interactive appears to be remaining with the company. One wrote, ‘We all know who the person was. At this point, y’all need to fire her immediately. This isn’t the first time she’s been problematic.’

Then, Behaviour confirmed some solid actions:

  • TheBurntPeanut’s DLCs have been removed
  • Internal guidelines are being rewritten to avoid a recurrence
  • Communication standards and expectations have been reiterated internally
  • The Creator Program has been updated

Are you surprised that Behaviour Interactive is still talking about this? Let us know your thoughts about the situation on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
