If you’re any kind of a Hearthstone fan, you’ll know that Reign of the Black Empire lands very soon, on October 20. If you’re any kind of a dedicated Hearthstone fan, you’ll probably also know that you can claim some free card packs simply for getting excited about the imminent arrival of Reign of the Black Empire!
Blizzard has arranged a neat system that allows users to claim free Hearthstone card packs ahead of the launch of Reign of the Black Empire just for checking out the team’s official streams on Twitch or YouTube. But there’s a trick that you can lean on to maximize the value of your free card packs…
Get The Most From Your Free Hearthstone Packs
Reign of the Black Empire hits Hearthstone on October 20, and in the run-up to the release, Blizzard Entertainment and some partners will be participating in a number of streams on YouTube and Twitch.
If you watch these streams with a linked account, you can unlock free Hearthstone card packs – it’s that simple.
The most important streams will take place from October 6 to 7, and to unlock the most packs, you’ll need to watch at least 60 minutes per theorycrafting stream. It’s a regional event, so there are different days to watch these streams depending on where you’re from.
Here’s the Hearthstone Reign of the Black Empire stream schedule:
- Reign of the Black Empire Theorycrafting Day 1 (NA/LATAM/EMEA) – October 6 @ 11 AM to 4 PM EST
- Reign of the Black Empire Theorycrafting Day 2 (NA/LATAM/EMEA) – October 7 @ 3 PM to 9 PM EST
- Reign of the Black Empire Theorycrafting (APAC) – October 7 @ 5 AM to 11 AM EST
- Reign of the Black Empire Theorycrafting (CN) – October 8 @ 7 PM to 11 PM EST
On October 6 and 7, there will be a special developer-backed theorycrafting stream, and from October 13 to 17, the community will be invited to host streams (with drops) in the run-up to Reign of the Black Empire launching on October 20.

But here’s a trick.
If you collect your free card packs and wait before opening them, you can maximize your gains. If you hold the packs until after October 20 and the launch of Reign of the Black Empire, you’ll have a chance of pulling cards from that new expansion.
Additionally, if you log in now (before October 20), you’ll get the M.O.T.H.E.R. legendary card simply for playing Hearthstone. There are free card packs available in the Battle.net shop, too, but they’re tied to the Escape from Violet Hold expansion.
