Riot Games’ League of Legends lead gameplay designer August ‘August’ Browning has admitted that Renata Glasc may need a rework.
Renata’s pick rate has been an issue for years. On LoL Patch 26.19, Renata’s pick rate is just 1.18% on average across all tiers and regions.
This is likely due to the fact that Renata’s kit relies heavily on coordination in order to make the revive on her W, Bailout, work.
Speaking on his stream, August conceded that the support likely is in need of a gameplay mid-scope update four years after her release.
Riot August Addresses Calls to Rework Renata
“I think Renata could use a mini-rework to be honest, like a midscope,” August conceded.
Mid-Scope Updates are a substantial update to a champion’s kit aimed at polishing how a champion feels and better defining their strategic niche.
August then explained that the support champion is in such an awkward spot due to her wildly different performances in pro play and solo queue:
“Renata is a combination; she’s pro-bound in the fact that we don’t tend to buff her because she’s good in pro sometimes.
“But then the power of all her different spells means that her baseline play pattern is pretty unsatisfying. It tends to be very teammate-reliant, not that that’s necessarily bad for enchanters.”

August also mentioned her high cooldown spells and the lack of clarity in the value her kit provides as reasons that Renata has become unappealing for most players.
In the Reddit thread about his comments, many users cited how difficult it is to use Renata’s Bailout with verbal communication.
Team-wide Voice chat is coming to League of Legends soon, though the initial release has since been delayed.
