A former employee at Turn 10 has revealed that the Forza Motorsport series is canceled, with the studio now becoming effectively a support studio for Forza.
Reposted to the /r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, Fred Russell, who left Turn 10 in 2016 has said that Xbox has shuttered the Forza Motorsport franchise.
“2Turn 10 Studios has shuttered the Forza Motorsport space and the team is no more. A very sad day for one of the best car racing video games. I loved my time there,” he said.
“the studio is open to support the Horizon side… shuttered the Forza Motorsport side only” he continued in response to someone asking about further details.
Turn 10 is understood to have been hit incredibly hard by the recent Microsoft layoffs, which saw around 9000 employees across the company made redundant, including thousands from its gaming division, Xbox. Turn 10 has been reported to have lost approximately 50% of its headcount.
The last Forza Motorsport title released in 2023 and despite Xbox not reporting the games sales, the gam received a 83/84 on review aggregator Metacritic. The game also received 84% on Open Critic.
Other studios effected by the recent Xbox layoffs included Rare, ZeniMax, and various Call of Duty studios. It’s been estimated that around 1000-2000 people at Microsoft’s Xbox division was impacted by this round of layoffs, but an exact number has yet to be officially reported.
This round of layoffs marks the 4th round of layoffs at Microsoft and Xbox in the past 18 months.
The round of layoffs followed a rumor that Phil Spencer was intended to retire after Xbox’s next-generation launch, however, the chief communications officer show down those rumors.

In other gaming news, Bethesda cancelled funding for several unannounced projects, and MindsEye will be “relaunched” as the CEO blames “saboteurs.”

The last Motorsport game didn’t come out well and took forever also more people prefer the Horizon series. Honestly would love Xbox to make other racing games Quantum Redshift
Xbox isn’t a thing and the PC space has better SIM hardware and better games to use that hardware with. It’s failure after Xbox failed was inevitable.
Get used to this folks. Keep crying about game and console prices and see how long it is sustainable, more and more games and studios will end. Most games simply aren’t profitable at $50-$60/game.
Keep it up and the video game industry will die off.
I love Forza Motorsport!
It’s a shame that this is HAPPNing…
Relax Dick, just cause the Market is adjusting doesn’t mean impending doom. The gaming industry isn’t going anywhere, lmao…
If they listened even remotely to what people wanted the game may have been a success. But they just troddled along, rarely adding maps, only adding the same boring cars, not adding stuff that players really wanted. It’s sad but it’s their fault. FM4 was an amazing game but sadly 8 just wasn’t there. Hopefully there will be staff still working on motorsport.
About time. Mtrsprt was obsolete ever since horizon came out
