Former Nintendo Employees Reveal Pros and Cons of Working There

Former Nintendo employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang explain the best and worst parts of working at Nintendo, offering insight into the company’s culture.

On the latest episode of the Kit & Krysta Podcast, the hosts broke down the good and bad of working for Nintendo. On the positive side, they noted that one of the best factors about working for Nintendo is that its top executives have integrity.

“The leaders at the highest level of the company have integrity, and they do care about the company and its employees. So, we’re talking about Mr. Iwata and then Mr. Furukawa, Reggie [Fils-Aimé], Doug [Bowser], Devon [Pritchard], that whole group… More than ever, you compare this to the people running these other companies, where it’s like, you seem to be running a scam to bleed this company dry and make as much as you can on your way out,” said Kit.

In the same vein, they mentioned job security as a huge benefit of working for Nintendo.

On the negative side, Kit and Krysta detailed struggles with work-life balance and the risk of becoming stagnant in their roles instead of continuing to learn.

Kit: Work-life balance, does not exist.

Krysta: There wasn’t any.

Krysta: It’s not like unique to Nintendo or anything like that. Not it’s not that Nintendo’s company in the world that that is like this, but it is it is some place where there is no sympathy towards the pacing.

Additionally, they noted that promotions aren’t common, and if someone is promoted, they are heavily tested beforehand.
