Former Fnatic Valorant Coach Milan Joins T2 Chinese Team Weibo

Former head coach of Fnatic’s VCT EMEA team, Milan ‘Milan’ de Meij, has joined tier 2 Chinese team Weibo Gaming.

Fnatic dropped Milan ahead of the Esports World Cup qualifiers, having failed to qualify for both Valorant Masters Santiago and London.

Despite Fnatic’s poor results, Milan had a good record having helped the team attend every Masters last year and reach the Valorant Champions 2025 final.

As a result, the move to a second-tier team is seen as quite a step backwards for the Dutch coach.

Weibo’s Valorant Season So Far

Weibo only returned to competitive Valorant back in April this year after three years away.

The organisation qualified for EVO Series 2026 Act 2, the only path to VCT Ascension China, by placing third in a China National tournament.

However, Weibo lost in the opening round of EVO and now sit joint-bottom of the China Evolution Series circuit point standings with no points.

Was Milan Scapegoated by Fnatic?

Many felt that Fnatic had unfairly scapegoated Milan for the team’s poor results after so much success the year prior.

Fnatic’s results this year weren’t helped by the fact that Sylvain ‘Veqaj’ Pattyn had to step down with health issues back in April.

Clément ‘CyvOph’ Millard joined in his place, but the team was unable to qualify for EWC as well and will now look to VCT EMEA Stage 2 in hopes of qualifying for Champions Shanghai.

However, Fnatic Valorant Team Director Colin ‘CoJo’ Johnson promised it wasn’t a panic move.

CoJo stressed that all players had a say in the decision and that he personally had 20 hours of talks with members of the organisation about the change.

Fnatic has since replaced Milan with former Karmine Corp head coach Andrey ‘Engh’ Sholokhov.
