Esports World Cup Week 1 Finals Preview: Valorant, ALGS, and Fatal Fury

The Esports World Cup is well underway and the first three champions will be crowned this weekend in Valorant, Apex Legends, and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

Reigning Valorant EWC Valorant champions Team Heretics were shockingly eliminated by BBL Esports, blowing the $2 million tournament wide open.

Meanwhile, the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Year 6 Split 1 Playoffs are about to kick off in Paris, with 20 elite squads chasing the $2m prize pool.

And Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is seeing 32 fighters battle it for the $1m prize pool in yet another lucrative final coming up this weekend.

EWC Valorant 2026 Finals Preview

Just four teams are left in the Valorant EWC Playoffs, with none of the regional Stage 1 champions left.

Though Valorant Champions 2025 winners NRG and Valorant Masters Santiago champions Nongshim RedForce remain in the tournament.

They are joined by another North American team in 100 Thieves and EMEA’s BBL Esports.

The stacked top four will become just two on Saturday, July 11, with 100T vs NS RedForce and BBL vs NRG.

Then, the grand final will take place on Sunday, July 12, at 2:45 PM BST to claim the trophy and $600k grand prize.

ALGS Year 6 Split 1 Playoffs

Saturday, July 11, starting at 2:30 PM BST, will also see one of the tensest and most unique final formats in all of esports.

After the ongoing survivor stage, just 20 of the 40 original teams will remain in Paris.

Then, it’s a straight race to 50 points with the first team to reach that tally then outright win a match crowned the EWC winner and ALGS Year 6 Split 1 champion.

Elite Esports EU has got off to the strongest start, topping the Group Stage with 199 points, but none of that will matter once the finals begin.

Esports World Cup 2026 Fatal Fury CotW Finals

The second-ever Fatal Fury EWC final will take place this Saturday, July 11, at 5:30 PM BST.

Last year’s champion, Goichi ‘GO1’ Kishida, was looking like an early favourite after breezing through the first Group Stage.

However, the former champion has had to withdraw due to ongoing health issues.

That has blown the competition wide open, with just eight fighters remaining in the $1m tournament.
