Former Battlefield Director Has Nothing Positive To Say About EA After Leaving

Former Battlefield director Marcus Lehto has taken to Twitter to make it clear that he has nothing nice to say about his former employer EA after leaving the company in February.

“Not been saying much here since I don’t have anything positive to say about EA, my recent departure, and how so many, including my team, are suffering due to the industry sweeping layoffs,” he said.

Just a day after Lehto made his departure from the company public, EA announced that it was laying off 5% of its global workforce, including the shutting down of Ridgeline Studios. Ridgeline had been responsible for the single-player development of the Battlefield franchise.

In its announcement of the studio’s closure, Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment and Technology, seemed to insinuate that Lehto’s exit was part of the reason for the studio’s closure.

“Marcus Lehto recently made a personal decision to leave the project,” she said. “To ensure our work continues uninterrupted, we immediately appointed leadership at Criterion to oversee our single-player work. As part of this change, we’ll be winding down Ridgeline as a standalone studio in Seattle, with some team members joining Ripple Effect.

  1. I left the company before the layoffs too and have nothing positive to say about my last 2 years there. It turned into a dictatorship, pandering to politics and losing sight of its core mission.

    1. “Pandering to politics”

Every single time there’s an article like this there’s always one of you losers that shows up.

LOL these games have been awful for a long time and it has 100% to do with a studio that’s all about milking gamers for $$.

      1. Riiiight… It’s 100% the studio that pushes for aggressive monetization, and not the greedy publisher.

      2. What do you think “Pandering to politics” boils down to?

Or do you think that these corpos give a damn about black, white, purple or whatever.

As soon as they realize that they’re losing money, the rainbows and fists will all go out the window.

        And that’s a good thing.

  2. It has been public knowledge for about 20 years that EA is terrible. No One Lives Forever 2 even made a thinly veiled jab at them by calling the main antagonist organisation Evil Alliance, or EA for short. That was in 2002. Nothing has changed. I guess it’s good to get it reaffirmed once in a while, but it’s really not surprising in the least.

  3. Why are game executives making 7 figures when the developers are being laid off? The game industry was fine when it was run by developers… Much like the world… Greedy bastards ruin everything just so they can be on below deck showing off how much money they have… Capitalism sucks basically
