Will Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Be Released On PC And Xbox?

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will launch as a timed exclusive on PlayStation 5, but it will end up coming to PC at a later date. The original Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched on PC in December, over a year after the game’s release on PlayStation 4. However, Sony did have a 12-month exclusivity deal with Square Enix, which prevented the game from going to other platforms until after April 2021.

One of the most interesting things that was seen in the latest trailer is that it stated it was only exclusive until May 29, 2024, which is just three months after the release of the game on PS5. This means that we could see a PC port much sooner than we saw for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

But, it is unclear whether the game will eventually make its way to Xbox. Final Fantasy 7 Remake has yet to see a release on Xbox so it would be safe to say that Rebirth won’t make an appearance either.

Do I Need To Play Final Fantasy 7 Remake Before Playing Rebirth?

With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth being the second part of the trilogy, it is best to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake so you will be up to date with the story, as well as being used to the game’s controls and mechanics, and it is a really fun game. But, if you don’t have the time to put into Final Fantasy 7 Remake before the launch of Rebirth, as the game is approximately 40 hours long, you could play the original game as the first game ends approximately four hours into the original.

However, that does mean that you are missing out on a lot of content as Final Fantasy 7 Remake is approximately 10 times larger than the same section in the original game. Final Fantasy 7 Remake also has DLC that focuses on Yuffie in Midgar, which is completely absent from the original game. So, you should play the remake if you want to get up to speed before Rebirth is released, but the choice is yours.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Characters

All of the characters that are alive by the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake should return in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as well as some new characters and even some surprise characters from Crisis Core. Here is everyone we can expect to see in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

  • Cloud Strife (Returning)
  • Barret Wallace (Returning)
  • Tifa Lockhart (Returning)
  • Aerith Gainsborough (Returning)
  • Red XIII (Returning)
  • Yuffie Kisaragi (Returning)
  • Cait Sith (New)
  • Vincent Valentine (New)
  • Cid Highwind (New)
  • Sephiroth (Returning)
  • Zack Fair (New/From Crisis Core)
  • Chadley (Returning)
  • Dyne (New)
  • Broden (New)
  • Elena (New)
  • Captain Titov (New)

Zack Is In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

One of the more surprising characters to see in the trailer was the inclusion of Zack, who is originally seen in flashback sequences in the original Final Fantasy 7 with his story fleshed out in the Crisis Core spinoff. When it comes to the main story, Zack was never seen with the crew and had died to save Cloud.

This has now been retconned and instead, he will make an appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and is still alive. It will be interesting to see how this change plays out and how it will affect the later part of the story.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Gameplay

Players that have already checked out the previous Final Fantasy 7 Remake will know what to expect from Rebirth as it should be more of the same. The game will focus on large open-world areas and locations to explore but with a fairly linear path to guide players through the story. New locations such as the Gold Saucer will provide a welcomed break as players can check out the various mini-games just like the original title. It has been stated that we can expect up to 100 hours of gameplay in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which is vastly larger than Remake’s 40 hours, and it shows how much new content is in the game as this should put players at approximately 15-20 hours through the original game.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Combat

The combat in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be very similar to that of Remake by utilizing both turn-based and command mechanics. This combines the classic Final Fantasy mechanics with the more modern ones seen in games such as Final Fantasy 15.

There will be one new addition called Synergy Moves, which are similar to Limit Breaks but can be used freely at any time. Each character will also have their own fighting style, such as Yuffie being faster but less effective when it comes to damage output. This will allow players to build a team that suits their playing style best while also taking advantage of the new skill tree mechanic to add another element of character growth and customization.

Where In The Story Will Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth End?

It hasn’t been confirmed where the story will end yet, but there is one logical point that will likely be where we can expect the game to end. With the original Final Fantasy 7 being three discs long, it would be expected that each entry in the remake would coincide with a disc in the game. However, Final Fantasy 7 Remake ended approximately four hours into the original game, with the remake extending the story to around 40 hours of content. This meant that the game hadn’t even begun to scratch the surface when it came to telling the full Final Fantasy 7 story.

So, does that mean that the rest of the story will be rushed as Square Enix has over two and a half discs of content to cover? Well, not really, as discs two and three are incredibly short when compared to the first one. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will likely last up until the end of disc one, with part 3 covering the two shorter discs to conclude the story.

So, Will…That Moment Happen?

Ok, if Final Fantasy 7 has somehow escaped you for the past 26 years, consider this your *SPOILER ALERT* because we can expect a major event to occur towards the end of the game. I haven’t included an image alongside this section for that reason. Just close your eyes and scroll down to the next section if you want it to be a surprise. If you’re still here, let’s discuss ‘that moment.’

The first disc of Final Fantasy 7 ends with one the most iconic moments in gaming history, with Sephiroth killing Aerith in an unexpected twist. Despite occurring more than 25 years ago, this scene is still often discussed in the gaming community.

With the next two discs being incredibly short compared to the first one, it seems like this will be the ideal time to end Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and save the next two discs for the third game. Nothing has been confirmed or leaked so far, but this is the most logical point to conclude the game, however, we will likely see some more of the story be told to set up the events of the final game.

Will Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 Be The End Of The Game?

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake has always been planned to be retold as a trilogy of games, so the next game will likely conclude the story with Cloud and his team finally taking down Sephiroth. As always, plans could change and Square Enix could decide to vastly expand the story, but this seems unlikely. Based on the length of time between Remake and Rebirth, it may be around 2027-2029 before we see the final game released.
