Fallout 76 Public Test Server Goes Live on Console For PS5 and XBOX Series Update

Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed today that the Public Test Server for Fallout 76 has gone live on PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series platforms. This marks the first time that console-based gamers can access the PTS, which is a separate platform from the core game that allows ‘insiders’ to try out new features and early updates.

The Public Test Server is going live in anticipation of the PS5 and XBOX Series update, which will introduce native versions of the post-apocalyptic RPG on those platforms.

Fallout 76 Current-Gen Update Coming Soon

In a blog post, the team at Bethesda Game Studios confirmed that, starting today, the Fallout 76 PTS can be downloaded on XBOX Series X, XBOX Series S, and PlayStation 5 platforms.

It’s an experiment of sorts, with the team using this ‘testing period’ to gather information needed to make sure the update is in as good a shape as possible before it’s rolled out across the core platform. The team then clarified what you can expect from the update in the Public Test Server:

  • Targeted 60 FPS across XBOX Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro.
  • 4K resolution (on compatible displays) on XBOX Series X, XBOX One X, PS5 Pro.
  • VRR (on compatible displays) on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, PS5 Pro.
  • PS5 and PS4 Pro will support 1440p while previous generation platforms will continue to support 1080p.

Fallout 76 is almost eight years deep into a live-service lifecycle, and to date, it has undergone dozens of updates at the hands of Bethesda Game Studios. It remains a hugely ambitious title that stands firm as a stopgap between 2015’s Fallout 4 and Fallout 5, which was recently confirmed as being in pre-production.
