EXCLUSIVE – New Deus Ex Game Pitched By Eidos-Montreal

Eidos-Montreal wants to bring back Deus Ex, and it’s been looking for ways to do so.

While working on details regarding the recent layoffs at the Montreal, Quebec-based studio, it was learned that the company had been actively pitching to external partners and publishers a new Deus Ex game.

According to multiple sources close to the studio’s plans, Eidos-Montreal was pitching the new game regularly, but it hasn’t led to any commitments from publishers.

One source said that there was a belief from a couple possible partners that the series was “too niche” at this stage. Another said that it became clear after a few meetings that publishers aren’t willing to take on the financial risk that comes with the Deus Ex franchise at the moment.

Not much is known about the details behind this new Deus Ex game being pursued. However, it was said that the concept for the game had “charm and novelty”, but that it didn’t match up with the “expectations or standards typically associated with the Deus Ex brand”.

To make it clear, this game, sources say, is different from the one that had been in development for two years before Embracer canceled it in early 2024 as part of the parent company’s restructuring efforts. It was also said that the lack of agreement for the pitched game had nothing to do with the layoffs. Insider Gaming is working on more information surrounding what led to 75 people losing their jobs.

Insider Gaming reached out to Eidos-Montreal ahead of publishing this story. As of publishing, however, no response has been received. Should one come in, it will be added to this story.

  • Again? They cancelled the last one. Microsoft could fund it if it really is the big AAAA game it was supposed to be. Also Legacy Of Kane also remake. Maybe even bring Spector back.

  • Embracer should just sell them to Atari or Elon Musk all of Eidos/Crystal Dynamic IP included. They never clarified if they own Slerping Dogs.

  • Deus Ex is such a fancy franchise and insanely contemporal and relatable at the moment with the whole controversy spanning around AI with literal Dei (AGI/SI) around the corner. I am super positive talented folks at Eidos have an amazing concept and someone rich will fund it before long!

  • The Deus Ex franchise are sone of my favourite games of all time, such memorable unique fun.

From everything you could do in the game to the extremely unique and multiple endings, it just screams early Cyberpunk 2077.

I absolutely love this genre and it just shows when a game is done so well like Cyberpunk 2077, there is indeed room for something like Deux Ex.

These two games did it the best of anything else out there.

  • No investor wants to compete with CDPR’s “new” dystopian sci fi franchise honestly. Its sad but its the truth. When selling games, they look at selling them to a large audience. Deus Ex is extremely niche, even more so now that we’re at the point of Cyberpunk 2077 being extremely popular and well liked (with a sequel on the way sooner or later) so it begs the question, why would anyone who only cares about money (investors) want to risk this investment?

Unfortunately the people that fund our beloved Game Developers are not of the same mind as the fans or even the developers. They have their bottom line to think about, which is the Almighty Dollar. Its impossible to find an investor or investor group in 2025 thats willing to take a risk like this purely for the fans.

  • maaaaan at least finish the damn storyline before you call it quits.
Everything is half baked nowadays. Nothing with substance anymore. Just trying to make a quick buck with no effort. This is why boomers look back longing for the 90’s and early 2000’s because this didn’t fly back then.
The industry is so disconnected with their customers, they don’t even know what to do anymore. They’d rather dumb their time and money in to new IP projects that are guaranteed to fail, instead of playing it safe with an established franchise.
