Activision has revealed full details for the upcoming Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.
Launching August 2, Season 5 features five total new maps, new celebrity operators, an in-game reveal event for the next Call of Duty game, and more.
New Weapons
First things first, the weapons. Season 5 will see two new weapons come at launch with four more to come during the season.
- FR Avancer (Assault Rifle – Launch, Battle Pass)
- Carrack .300 (Sniper Rifle – Launch, Battle Pass)
- M13C (Assault Rifle – In-Season)
There’s also a new unannounced SMG and sidearm coming during the season. Lastly, a pickaxe is coming as a new melee weapon.
New Maps
At launch, there will be four new maps for players, two core and two Gunfight:
- Punta Mar (Core, Launch) – “Get ready to infiltrate a brand-new map from Infinity Ward. Punta Mar is a recently evacuated tourist attraction in Las Almas — once a bustling town on a hill overlooking a beautiful South American beach.”
- Strike (Core, Launch) – “This version of Strike is how veterans likely remember it, albeit with some slight adjustments to make it fit in Modern Warfare II.”
- Lounge (Gunfight, Launch) – “No time to kick back and relax here: This compact map for Gunfight and other small-squad modes takes place in a high-scale, high-octane club.”
- Canal (Gunfight, Launch) – “Situated in the vicinity of Vondel, this new Gunfight map takes place in and around a brewery and a canal thoroughfare.”
There will also be one more core map released mid-season called DRC Zone 1.

“Building 21 already had some spectacularly memorable moments in Call of Duty: Warzone. Now an area within the vicinity of this clandestine location will be revealed for Modern Warfare II Multiplayer,” Activision says. “Prepare to enter a new Zone in the DRC research campus.”
New Modes
In Season 5, Modern Warfare 2 will receive multiple new modes starting with Havoc and Big Capture the Flag.
“Havoc is a brand-new Core Multiplayer mode inspired by classic arena-shooter gameplay, then further enhanced with the injection of a random selection of frenzy-inducing modifiers,” the notes say.
The mode doesn’t feature perk packages, killstreaks, or field upgrades. The modifiers take their place.
Big Capture the Flag is the same mode as usual, just on a larger scale in a 20v20 match.
Mid-season, the mode Faceoff is coming to the game as well. The mode allows players to play modes like Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed on the smaller Gunfight maps without killstreaks.
Gunfight is also receiving new in-season variants including Armored Gunfight, which is your standard Gunfight experience just with armor enabled. Other variants of the mode include Gunfight Snipers and Gunfight Custom.
New Operators
After rumors of her involvement, Nicki Minaj has been confirmed as an operator during Season 5. In addition to Minaj, Snoop Dogg and 21 Savage will be available during the season as part of the game’s “50 Years of Hip Hop” celebration.
On top of the celebrity operators, six new standard operators are coming to the game by mid-season.

Warzone Season 5 Updates
Warzone is set to see a number of updates in Call of Duty Season 5 as well.
Two new vehicles are coming to the game: MRAP and Dirt Bikes. They will be located throughout the map for players, though the MRAP will “not appear often”.
A new question called “Vondel Champion” will be available at launch.
“Just like the Traditional Battle Royale Champion’s Quest for Al Mazrah, a squad that is on a winning streak — five in a row in Mini Battle Royale matches — will have the opportunity to take on the Champion’s Quest in Vondel,” Activision says.
From Activision:
Although the Vondel’s quest will be similar to Al Mazrah’s quest in that you will build the M.G.B., there are a couple key differences:
First, all elements must be held and never dropped (a prerequisite that also now applies to any Champion’s Quest you undertake). That means an element can’t be dropped in the water and saved for the end. If an element is dropped, it must be recaptured to continue the quest.
Second, there are three brand-new elements — or elemental compounds — to capture as part of this quest:
-
- Gallium: Holding Gallium reveals all nearby team members who held it previously, as if you were affected by a Snapshot Grenade.
- Deuterium: This fatigues any Operator, which includes causing them to cough if they try sprinting.
- Neptunium: This periodically electrocutes all nearby Operators as well as hay-wiring vehicles, with similar effects as the Shock Stick
Lastly, Season 5 Reloaded will see Armored Royale and Fort Resurgence added to the game.
