The new free-to-play online Pokémon battler, Pokémon Champions, is finally out and has led to the competitive debut of a lot of new Mega Evolutions.
Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive Pokémon Legends Z-A introduced 45 new Mega Evolutions to the franchise following the release of the Mega Dimensions DLC.
Now, 23 of those Megas can be used in the traditional VGC battles of Pokémon Champions, which has led to the reveal of these new Mon’s abilities.
There are some pretty significant changes, such as Mega Starmie getting Huge Power to double its base attack.
However, the Mega was nerfed from Z-A and only has 100 base attack instead of 140, with more Pokémon Champions balance patches promised for the future.
Pokémon Champions Debuts Four New Abilities
At least four Mega Evolutions from Pokémon Legends Z-A have been given brand new abilities, with Meganium and Feraligatr’s new abilities revealed for Pokémon Champions during early access events.
Mega Meganium has the signature ability ‘Mega Sol‘ which allows changes its moves as if the weather were harsh sunlight.
This allows Solar Beam to fire immediately without a charge time, Synthesis to heal extra, and turns Weather Ball into a fire move with a 50% damage boost.
Meanwhile, Feraligatr has Dragonize, which turns normal-type moves into Dragon and boosts their power by 20%.
Mega Scovillain has the new ability Spicy Spray, which burns an attacker who hits the Fire and Grass type with a move.
And finally, Mega Excadrill has Piercing Drill, which allows its contact moves to hit targets protecting themselves, but only for 25% of the damage it would’ve dealt otherwise.
