Escape from Tarkov’s 1.1.0 update is here, and it has introduced a massive overhaul to the game’s side task system. You now unlock side tasks in vast droves as you hit new levels with traders, securing batches of tasks so you can complete them in a non-linear fashion. Additionally, progress can now be shared amongst a squad, even if your teammates don’t have that task active.
What has also changed is the huge array of side missions that players have been tackling for many years, some of which are iconic to new and veteran players alike. Battlestate Games has issued some enormous alterations to the game’s base tasks, forever changing the face of them.
Tarkov Side Task Changes Run Wild
I was probing Escape from Tarkov’s task system to see what changes had been made, and I was shocked to see that so many side missions had been altered. In some cases, the changes promote accessibility and ease, but in others, changes mean things are much more difficult going forward.
For instance, Tigr Safari, the age-old Customs quest to mark three Tigr vehicles spread across the map. Now, you only need to mark any one Tigr vehicle. Bad Habit, which is the task to collect cigarettes. Before the update, this instructed you to collect five Strike, five Marboro, and five Wilston cigarette packets. Now, you just need to collect 15 of any of them.
How about Stirrup? This used to be to get three pistol kills on any map. It’s now 10 PMC pistol kills specifically on Factory. That’s an example of a task that has been made much more difficult by the change.
Safe Corridor, which used to be to eliminate Scavs in the underground storage area on Reserve, that has been changed so you need to eliminate five Scavs and hand in three found-in-raid keys for that same area.
Chumming is now just Customs and Woods; no Interchange. Urban Medicine now requires you to eliminate 10 Scavs around Streets of Tarkov and not just check out the lab behind Lexos. For Fishing Gear, you’re no longer stashing a rifle and a multi-tool, but a multi-tool and a piece of UNTAR armor.
Regulated Materials? Instead of five shells, you now need to hand in just three.
Informed Means Armed? There’s no Customs plant now, only Woods and Interchange.
These examples run rampant, and Battlestate Games has made so many alterations across the entire board in Escape from Tarkov. It’s wild, but change is a good thing, right? I just feel sorry for the folks running the Tarkov Wiki.
