If you want to participate in an Escape from Tarkov wipe for your new seasonal character, resetting it to pick new modifiers during a live season, you’ll have a major box to tick first. As you might have understood, PvP and PvE characters do not automatically wipe anymore, but every four to six months, you’ll be able to experience an entirely new in-game season with a totally fresh character.
However, if you want to reset your seasonal character earlier than that, you’ll need to part ways with a little cash or some in-game Tarcoins, a new digital currency that can be obtained by paying some real-world money. It’s not the only way to get your hands on Tarcoins, but it’s easily the most direct way.
Tarkov Season Wipes Cost Tarcoins
To reset your season character progress before the window is up for everyone, you’ll need to slip some Tarcoins into Battlestate Games’ pocket. This was recently discovered as players leapt head over heels for the new 1.1.0 update, which is the most major overhaul to hit Escape from Tarkov since the game launched in November 2025.
Several weeks ago, Battlestate Games introduced the Expansion Hub, an all-new digital storefront powered by these Tarcoins. It’s a way to purchase things that would otherwise cost real money, such as exclusive outfits, stash expansions, and access to the PvE ecosystem, if you don’t already have it.
Tarcoins can be earned by working your way through the new battle pass introduced with Kord Breach, the game’s first season, or you can find them in various high-profile areas across Escape from Tarkov. However, the easiest way to stack up your Tarcoins is to simply pay for them using your hard-earned cash.
That’s why some players are a little vexed that resetting a seasonal character costs Tarcoins.

Let’s set up a scenario. You’ve just made your seasonal character and locked in your modifiers, but you don’t like them, and you’re against what you’ve picked and want to make a change. You’re so early on in the game that you likely have no Tarcoins in your stash, and you haven’t got anywhere with the battle pass to rack up enough.
What can you do?
Well, you can jump over to the store and purchase a few dollars’ worth of Tarcoins to reset your account and go again with the modifiers.
Weeks ago, Battlestate Games offered up a Tarkov promo code that gave thousands of players a free stack of 150 Tarcoins, so that’s something, but the fact still stands that they’ve effectively paywalled a reset process.
It’s worth stressing that both PvE and PvP platforms can wipe for free once every three weeks.
