With no proper Pokémon remakes on the horizon, it’s over to one dedicated creator to bring the classic Pokémon Emerald to life, giving the OG the most remarkable makeover for 2026—and a release date.
Game Freak is dual-wielding efforts to deliver Beast in Reincarnation, but is also hard at work on the next mainline Pokémon games—Wind and Waves.
This seems to leave no room for new remasters or remakes, cue Pokémon Gamma Emerald.
You Can Play Pokémon Gamma Emerald From August 15
Created by UndreamedPanic, Pokémon Gamma Emerald is an HD-2D remake/reimagining of the 2004 original.
It’s first launching in early access on August 15, because the game has been remade from start to finish by one person, so it isn’t quite finished yet, and it looks incredible in Unreal Engine.

Pokémon Gamma Emerald features a ton of new gameplay elements and touches you won’t find in the OG:
- New Assets.
- Dynamic weather.
- Day/night cycle.
- Unique battle themes for every Gym leader.
UndreamedPanic has been working on the project since Jan 19, 2024, and announced the progress with a first YouTube video.
