Battlestate Games has unveiled the ICEBREAKER update in Escape from Tarkov, which brings the 1.0.5 patch to the game after weeks of teasers. This update introduces a new PvE experience that takes place away from Tarkov’s core region, on a nuclear-powered icebreaker ship that’s trapped inside Tarkov’s blockade ring.
This PvE map facilitates both solo and team-based gameplay, with a maximum squad restriction of three players, and it also adds a new boss, fresh weapons, ways to play, and much more. Check out the full patch notes below.

In a post breaking down the full patch notes for Escape from Tarkov’s 1.0.5 update, Battlestate Games opened things up with this intro paragraph:
How did the Paradigm Shipping icebreaker end up trapped inside Tarkov’s blockade ring? What happened to its crew? Who is behind it all? You’ll uncover the answers by completing a new story chapter during an expedition focused on exploration and PvE gameplay. And if answers alone are not enough, the loot will make it worth your while.
Icebreaker is a separate location for 1-3 players, available in all game modes. There, you will face AI enemies either solo or as part of a group. You will not be matched with random players on Icebreaker.
Earlier this month, BSG held a Tarkov TV episode that uncovered some of the most important new features coming to the game, and some of those have been added with this update. That includes the new UI mechanic that helps you understand when you’re nearing a quest objective or a specific item you need for a mission.
It was also confirmed that ‘several’ new streamer items have been added to the game, but we don’t know what they are just yet. This has always been a point of contention amongst players, though.
The fixes in the 1.0.5 patch are relatively slim, as the core of this update revolves around the Icebreaker map and experience, but here they are:
- Fixed a cause of memory leaks related to the audio system in certain cases
- Optimized the animation system to reduce CPU usage
- Fixed an issue where the limb selection interface for healing could disappear in certain situations
- Fixed visual artifacts when using x2 and x4 resampling while interacting with Traders and the Hideout in certain cases
- Fixed the cause of error 228 that could occur when removing an expiring water filter from the Water Collector zone in the Hideout
- Fixed several visual issues related to geometry and colliders across locations
- Fixed a cause of severe client performance drops when dragging ammo from the inventory over a full magazine in the search window
- Fixed an issue where kills with Saiga-12K 12ga automatic shotgun (Redline) did not count towards progression of the tasks “Silent Caliber” and “Punisher p.4”
- Fixed the incorrect compass behavior after exiting the BTR
- Number of minor fixes to various aspects of the game.
Battlestate Games is keeping quiet about the content contained in ICEBREAKER, leaving it up to players to determine what it is and how it can be beaten, which is typical for Escape from Tarkov.
