Unreal Engine 6 Revealed, Will Power Next Era of Rocket League

After 11 years, Rocket League is finally upgrading from Unreal Engine 3. As announced during Championship Sunday of the Rocket League Championship Series: Paris Major in France on May 24, the game’s next era will be powered by Unreal Engine 6.

The major announcement came just before the second semifinal match between Team Vitality and Karmine Corp. The crowd in Paris went absolutely ballistic as the next era of the popular esports franchise was finally revealed. Along with the announcement came a trailer showcasing in-game footage of the brand-new engine. No official release date was shown, however.

Rocket League Unreal Engine 6 Trailer Sparks Fortnite Concerns

By the time Psyonix released Rocket League in 2015, the fourth iteration of Unreal Engine had already been available for a year. In 2022, Unreal Engine 5 was released. Now, 4 years on from that, it appears Rocket League will blaze the pathway forward for the next generation of game development in the Unreal Engine.

After seeing comments on social media, many users are worried about the game transitioning from its own experience to becoming part of Fortnite. The cause of that concern was a part of the trailer that seemed to show the game alongside other Fortnite collaborations and hinted that the Fortnite UI was on display.

Others just wanted in-game trading to be brought back. There were, however, many who were just happy to finally be moving on from Unreal Engine 3. You can see some of the social media reactions below:

Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available. In other Fortnite-related news, several game modes were recently shut down as Epic Games had to make major cutbacks. Learn more about that here.

How do you feel about the news? Are you excited for Unreal Engine 6? Do you feel the upgrade should be made only in Unreal Engine 5? Do you think there should have been energy put towards a Rocket League 2 instead of waiting 11 years for an engine upgrade? Sound off about this story and all others in our official Discord server.
