Epic Games Using AI to Finish Marvel & Star Wars Shooter for Disney
A recent report from Bloomberg reveals that Epic Games was developing a shooter for Disney, originally scheduled for release in March 2027, but this launch has now been delayed. The game will feature characters from the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. The development team has been asked to adopt an “AI-first” production model, utilizing tools like Claude, with human oversight and management throughout the process.
One of the game’s directors has asked the team in an internal message to stop using handwritten code and added that all the game’s art will be “generated with full AI workflows.” The communications director, Jake Jones, has also said in a recent statement that the company is “embracing AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do.”
The report reveals that the dev team was left ‘stunned’ by this message, and some also joked about the situation. Some devs were also hoping that the company was not serious about this new direction. However, Tim Sweeney’s latest message makes it seem pretty much set in stone.
