Elgato Announces The Wave Go Portable Microphone

Elgato is entering the mobile audio market. On Tuesday, the company announced the Elgato Wave Go convertible microphone.

This latest piece of hardware from Elgato comes with a clip-on microphone, a USB receiver that plugs into any compatible device, and a smart handle.

The smart handle allows the microphone to be used as a traditional interview mic. The smart handle allows for onboard controls, a custom sound profile, and even charges the Wave Go.

“More content is being filmed on phones today than ever before, in more places and in ways that didn’t exist a few years ago,” said Julian Fest, SVP and General Manager of Elgato, via release. “Wave Go was built for that world. One mic that handles it all, and sounds amazing the entire time. Throw it in your bag and you’re ready for whatever comes next.”

The clip-on microphone weighs 7 grams and mounts magnetically. Custom profile tuning, Elgato says, helps keep clarity and quality while the mic is placed on the chest.

The Wave Go lasts up to eight hours on a single charge. As mentioned, though, the smart handle also offers on-board charging. It can hold up to five full recharges, allowing for up to 48 hours of battery life. Elgato says just 10 minutes of charging will give users an hour of use.

The Wave Go is available starting today for $99.99. Though the kit only comes with one transmitter, you can buy a second one for $29.99 for multi-person recording. The second mic will pair with the same receiver.
