Google is making it even easier for people to get into game creation. The company has introduced Google Playground, an AI-powered platform used to “create, play, and share custom games”.
This new “experimental platform” allows players to “bring game ideas to life” by simply prompting the tool, with zero coding knowledge required.
Everyone’s A Game Designer Now
Google Playground allows users to select from a few options, such as whether a game is 2D or 3D, its genre, whether it’s single-player or multiplayer, and more.
The user can then use prompts to describe the style of the game, wanted mechanics, and more. Users can even upload their own created assets that the AI will then transform into game assets that fit the desired style.
Games can be played on both mobile devices and PC as they are purely browser-based. There’s even support for in-game leaderboards, should you want that included.
There are also plans to integrate Unity Spark in the future.
“Unity Spark unlocks robust, professional-level mechanics, high-fidelity 3D capabilities, and the flexibility of the Unity runtime,” Google said. “The accessibility of Playground and the world-class, game-building expertise of Unity provides the building blocks for an ecosystem where you can start with a simple text prompt and eventually grow into building immersive experiences with Unity.”
Playing the games will be free. To create games, you’ll need tokens. There is a free tier that offers a limited number of tokens, whereas token limits will increase the higher your tier.
Google Playground is being slowly rolled out to users, with invites coming in waves based on your Google One membership. You have to be 18 or older and reside in the United States to create.
