Following an update on the Elden Ring SteamDB page, the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC appears to be in the Quality Assessment stage.
A long string of updates to the Changelist mention “qa-release”, “qa-debug”, “dev-debug”, and other telling names. Some changed depots even reference “pd-1”, which could point to a playable demo.
The update history added these changes just hours ago. This supports ongoing rumors that a big reveal or release is imminent.
Earlier this month, a new Elden Ring DLC package appeared in its files. This also pointed to Shadow of the Erdtree, but the developers have not confirmed anything.
The Shadow of the Erdtree was first announced in February 2023. Rumors suggest that something big is coming for Elden Ring’s launch anniversary.
Elden Ring originally released on February 25th, 2022. So, another anniversary celebration is probably lined up for this year.
The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC would be a perfect gift to longtime fans. However, it may not release outright on the game’s anniversary. It could simply be a release date announcement.
After all, fans noted that the developers did not announce the DLC at The Game Awards 2023.
It would make sense to build hype for major DLC, rather than relying on a shadow drop. So, the Elden Ring DLC could release later this year.
However, in December 2023, leaks surfaced online about a collaboration between Elden Ring and Thrustmaster.
These leaks suggested that Elden Ring-themed Thrustmaster controllers would “sync with the new Shadow of the Erdtree expansion” to celebrate an anniversary. And the page about these controllers was swiftly takekn down.
Elden Ring received enormous praise for its combination of innovative features and celebration of previous games.
