Edge of Eternity Developer Midgar Has Shut Down

Another studio has closed its doors. On Monday, it was announced that Midgar Studio, the developer behind games like Edge of Eternity and Edge of Memories, is shutting down.

The announcement came from Jérémy Zeler-Maury on LinkedIn.

Dozens Are Out Of Work

In his post, Zeler-Maury said that it wasn’t the message he wanted to write. Parent company Nacon had been looking for a buyer for the French studio, but failed to do so.

Because of that, the court has ordered it liquidated.

“Despite every avenue explored and everyone who tried to help us, no solution could be completed within the timeframe of the process,” the Midgar founder and current Nacon CTO wrote.

“What began as a slightly crazy idea became eighteen years of work, creation, challenges, encounters and memories. Midgar is the work we accomplished on Hover, Edge of Eternity, Edge of Memories, and all the projects, prototypes, ideas and worlds that passed through the studio. But above all, Midgar is the people who brought our games to life, and everyone who contributed to this journey.”

Zeler-Maury continued by thanking everyone who has ever worked for the studio. He added that his thoughts are with those who are now out of work.

“The company is closing, but their talent, experience and value remain intact,” he said. “To the studios, publishers and recruiters reading this: this team deserves your attention. Please reach out to them.”

While an official number of those who are losing their jobs is unknown at this moment, it’s believed to be roughly 30-50 people.
