Dune: Awakening Gets Private Servers at Launch, Earlier Than First Announced

Dune: Awakening players will be able to purchase private servers at launch on June 10, earlier than developer Funcom previously expected the feature to be available.

With early access of the title due to begin on June 5, Funcom has altered the date for the arrival of private servers to be in line with the time the floodgates first open, having “previously communicated that servers are for post-launch.”

The change comes as “progress has been faster than expected,” although there are a few things to note about private servers in Dune: Awakening and how they may differ from other MMORPG titles.

Funcom decided to keep the large-scale multiplayer aspects of the game, including social hubs and the Deep Desert, even if you run a private server.

Private servers will offer a region with one Hagga Basin, similar to official servers. However, the Deep Desert, Arrakeen, and Harko Village will be shared environments in a world alongside other private servers.

This allows players to enjoy the large-scale multiplayer mechanics, although it does mean there won’t be full control over everything in the private servers.

Dune: Awakening Private Servers Available Settings

Settings available include the creation of security zones, making PvP available in specific areas, disabling taxation, and disabling sandstorms, though there will not be an admin control panel or the ability to transfer characters—though that could come in a post-launch update.

There are three current options to rent a private server in Dune: Awakening, with GPORTAL, Nitrado, and xRealm all offering the service.

You can visit other private servers in your world with their passwords, unlocking the ability to claim land, a feature not available on official servers.

Dune: Awakening launches fully on PC on June 10, following a five-day early access period, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S planned for the future.
