In a new press release, Gameloft Montreal announced that it is officially working on a Dungeons & Dragons project for PC and consoles. The studio did not confirm specific platforms.
Gameloft’s Montreal Studio previously worked on titles such as Disney Dreamlight Valley, LEGO Star Wars Castaways, and the Dungeon Hunter series.
Today’s press release does not confirm an estimated release window for the new D&D project. However, it describes the game as a blend of “survival, action RPG, and life simulation” set in the Forgotten Realms.
Dungeons & Dragons recently made a big splash in the gaming industry after the enormous success of Baldur’s Gate 3. Last month, Larian Studios’ Michael Douse revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 sold “way over” 10 million copies.
Gameloft Montreal says that its Dungeons & Dragons game will feature “unique cooperative gameplay” and “real-time survival”.
Dungeons & Dragons thrives on immersion, especially due to its tabletop origins. The storytelling and relationships in Baldur’s Gate 3 were certainly a highlight. So, an emphasis on life sim mechanics could be satisfying.
However, this approach may concern fans who did not enjoy Disney Dreamlight Valley. That also featured similar features, and released to very mixed reviews.
Gameloft Montreal’s Executive Producer, Lee Kaburis, says that “we look forward to sharing more details in the future”. This vague answer might mean that another update for Gameloft’s Dungeons & Dragons project could take some time.
For now, Gameloft did release some concept art that looks rather cozy and colorful. This may hint at the tone of the gameplay.
The Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 released with major bugs that even affected save states. Fortunately, the issue was resolved for most later on. The Xbox physical edition will reportedly release with four discs.
