No More Robots and RageSquid have just shadowdropped Descenders Next on PC and Xbox, bringing the high-octane follow-up to the 2018 cycling title to an excited audience. Moving away from mountain biking, Descenders Next introduces two extreme sports, snowboarding and mountainboarding.
This is just the beginning, the developers have said. In a release published ahead of the game’s release, it was said that ‘as long as players keep coming back to the game, we’ll keep adding sports.’
More Millions
Descenders emerged in 2018 as a mobile-first cycling game that quickly broadened its horizons to cover as many platforms as possible. An extreme downhill cycling title, Descenders used procedurally generated tracks to keep players on their toes (or perhaps their toes on their pedals), fusing insane stunts with high-speed, plummeting tracks.
In a statement released to celebrate the Descenders Next shadowdrop, the team at No More Robots said:
Building on the success of Descenders – which has seen 35 million players since it launched seven years ago – Descenders Next is the natural evolution of the original experience. We asked ourselves: Where do we go from Descenders? How do we deliver the same feel, the same sense of speed, but expand beyond mountain biking? From there, the idea of perfecting the fluidity of numerous sports was born.
With Descenders Next, players will learn to conquer the snowy caps through tight, effortless snowboarding action, before taking to the highlands with the grittier feel of mountainboarding. Each sport feels and handles differently, meaning players will have to learn to tackle and master every nook and cranny of Next.
Descenders Next features multiplayer action, customisation elements, and all the trappings that came with the first game. Players will be able to seek sponsorships, upgrade their equipment, and explore ‘procedural off-piste mountains that chain together into tight, winding parks and vistas.’
Descenders Next is available now on Xbox and PC for $29.99 / €28.99 / £24.99, or it’s available on Game Pass on Xbox and PC for no extra charge.
