Players have been informed that Dark Souls 2 & 3’s game servers have been shut down indefinitely because the devs have found a security issue.
The initial announcement from FromSoftware arrived a couple of days ago, in which they informed players that “due to a server issue,” the game servers for Dark Souls 2 and 3 would be temporarily unavailable on all platforms, and the developers didn’t provide any information regarding the restoration date. Now, the reason for the shut down has been revealed.
Dark Souls 2 and 3 Game Servers Don’t Have a Return Date
Spotted by GamesRadar+, a new post on the official FromSoftware Support X account (formerly Twitter) reveals why the Dark Souls 2 and 3 servers are shutting down indefinitely. The message reads, “We have discovered a security vulnerability on the game servers for the following game titles, and as a result, we have shut down the game servers on all platforms. We apologize for any inconvenience and disruption this may cause, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.”
The servers were shut down on October 30, and the end date and time have yet to be revealed. The issue affects all platforms, so players will not be able to play any online gameplay during this period. However, offline gameplay will still be available if players want to play those modes.

There are several online game modes that are still pretty popular in Dark Souls 2 and 3; apart from co-op gameplay, there are modes like Invasions and Duels that allow players to take on other players too.
