Crimson Desert developer has stated that they will have to make some sacrifices to introduce multiplayer.
Pearl Abyss has started addressing several different aspects of the game and their development plans post-release. Recently, the CEO addressed the core development team about moving to the next game and their thoughts on official mod support. Pearl Abyss also addressed Crimson Desert multiplayer and DLC plans.
Crimson Desert Multiplayer Would Require Graphics Sacrifices
According to a report by the South Korean outlet Yonhap News, Pearl Abyss addressed multiplayer for Crimson Desert. The developer stated that the team has already “attempted to implement multiplayer internally, but there are clearly aspects of graphics that must be sacrificed in the current device environment” (Google Translation).
The developer has indicated that while expansion packs can boost sales, he believes that games can also “generate revenue by increasing sales of the base game as content expands.” The CEO aims to make decisions that will ensure the base game of Crimson Desert sells well.
Considering the MMO-like inspirations of Crimson Desert and its expansive world filled with endless opportunities, players will likely want a multiplayer setting. However, the execution of this feature is crucial, and the developers will need to determine the most effective way to implement it if they choose to do so.
In other news, Crimson Desert reviews have recovered following the first updates and some time with the game. Additionally, the title has sold through 3 million copies.
