Crimson Desert is Getting an Extraction Mechanic, But Not Like You’d Think

Pearl Abyss has explained what’s coming in the next major Crimson Desert update, slated to arrive in just a few days. The high-level rundown of what’s inbound to the stellar open-world RPG is light on the details, but it contains some key notes as to what we can expect, including new special mounts.

There’s a note about a new extraction feature coming to Crimson Desert with that impending update, and while it made me perform a classic double-take, it’s not at all what you’d think.

Crimson Desert’s Next Major Update is Coming

Pearl Abyss has been moving mountains to evolve Crimson Desert, and in the few weeks it has been on the market, the team has released several major updates. The quality-of-life improvements have run wild, and almost everything done to make the game better has been influenced by community feedback.

In a new post on social media, Pearl Abyss explained what the next major update is looking like, and they (foolishly) featured the term ‘extraction’.

This prompted stomachs to drop everywhere, as that word is now synonymous with one of the most divisive gaming genres to ever find popularity. But it’s nothing to do with extraction shooters, that’s for damn sure.

The team wrote:

The update will be released within the next few days and will include new special mounts, an extraction feature that will allow you to recover materials used in equipment refinement, and more.

It’s an extraction mechanic that allows users to claw back some of the precious materials used when refining equipment. It’s not exactly clear how this will work, but it shouldn’t be long until the update is released and we figure all that out for ourselves.
