Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Update 1.4.0 Patch Notes—Battle Retry Added And DLSS & XeSS Enhancements

Clair Obscur Expedition 33’s patch 1.4.0 is now live, introducing a new Battle Retry option, Frame Generation and Low Latency for Nvidia and Intel GPUs and much more.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the highest-rated games of 2025, thanks to its stunning visuals, riveting storyline and innovative gameplay. We recently learned that the Daredevil actor plans to purchase a console specifically to play the game. A new patch has been released, featuring quality-of-life improvements, accessibility tools, bug fixes, and more.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.4.0 is now Live

Performance and Visuals

  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.40 introduces new DLSS and XeSS enhancements, with Frame Generation and Low Latency now available for DLSS and XeSS compatible GPUs. The developers are still exploring support for FSR, but will need some more time to figure it out.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • The next highlight of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.40 is the Battle Retry option. Players now find a new pop-up window after defeat, which gives them the option to quickly retry the battle.
  • Other quality of life improvements include a Lumina Cost Display, a feature that allows dialogue to autoplay outside of cutscenes, and separate volume sliders for exploration and combat phases.

Accessibility and Combat

  • Regarding accessibility, the new patch has added icons to Lune’s Stains to improve readability and accessibility for colorblind players.
  • Coming to combat, players will no longer receive an extra turn for Lune’s “Thermal Transfer” without meeting the Stain consumption requirements.
  • Additionally, characters will no longer gain immortality when using the Second Chance pictos combined with Healing Boon and Protecting Death.

Miscellaneous

  • Fixed the Rocher holding a crystal occasionally despawning after reentering the Stone Wave Cliffs.
  • Fixed some players being teleported behind the Monolith upon loading a save.
  • Fixed Gameplay modifiers being applied to a New Game save when enabled on other saves.
  • Fixed landing as Esquie without the party spawning, leading to input loss.
  • Fixed the Fog on Flying Manor covering the screen and blocking the view on Steam Deck.

Achievements

  • Fixed journals vanishing after loading a Save File that was created at the exact moment of picking up that journal.
  • Fixed “Expeditioner” and “Trailbreaker” achievements not unlocking if the characters reach a level higher than 33 or 66 after a battle.
  • Fixed ‘Connoisseur’ and ‘Follow The Trail’ achievements not unlocking after collecting all required items on some save files.

Environmental Polish

  • Various environmental bug fixes, tweaks, and visual polish across multiple levels for a more immersive experience.

In other news, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann is “in awe” of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Additionally, Square Enix plans to release more turn-based titles following the success of this game.
