Sorry, But The Chrono Trigger Remake Isn’t Happening

Yesterday, gamers everywhere became elated at the news (or at least, the claim) that a Chrono Trigger remake was in the works. This was seemingly confirmed by Yuji Horii, the creator of Dragon Quest and the writer behind the original Chrono Trigger title, released in 1995.

While speaking on a panel in Naples, an interpreter translated something Horii had said, leading everyone to believe that a Chrono Trigger remake was being pieced together.

It now seems that’s not the case.

Slip-up

Gematsu was able to source footage of the panel from Naples, which irrevocably confirms that Yuji Horii did not mention a Chrono Trigger remake. The original source came from a Reddit user who claimed they were at the event and heard first-hand what the interpreter had to say based on Horii’s comments.

We covered what seemed to be a huge leak, especially for retro gamers, but unfortunately, I now come full circle to disappoint you all.

As mentioned, Gematsu sourced a Twitch clip that highlighted the moment Horii was interviewed in Naples (at the Napoli Comic Con), and translators have confirmed that he said nothing of the sort about a Chrono Trigger remake.

At a time when nostalgia is more powerful than ever and both remasters and remakes are taking the world by storm, it seemed to be appropriate that a Chrono Trigger remake would be produced.

Why not? Recently, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was remastered after 20 years, and it became an overnight sensation, selling millions of copies and wowing gamers everywhere.

When Fortnite OG was released, the game shattered player count records, and Verdansk’s nostalgia-ridden return proved to be a boon for Activision’s studios.

Anyway, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Chrono Trigger remake just isn’t a thing.
