A top CD Projekt Red executive recently explained why players shouldn’t expect to see many expansions for The Witcher 4 or any of the franchise’s upcoming games.
DLC expansions are a part of modern gaming. It’s expected that any game, regardless of genre, will have expansion packs that extend its longevity. The Witcher 3 has had numerous packs that have added story content and more. Still, players shouldn’t expect to see similar expansion packs for the next Witcher trilogy, which is currently slated to be fully released within six years.
CD Projekt Red Sets Expectations for Witcher DLC Content Moving Forward
CD Projekt Red’s joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, recently responded to a question during an earnings call regarding the potential for expansions being created for any of the next three games. He explained that, given the ambitious timeline they’ve set for themselves, there likely won’t be room for very ambitious expansion packs.
“Specifically, it’s to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. It would be difficult, to be very honest, for us to add an expansion to the upcoming trilogy. This is where we are here and now with this particular issue,” he said (via GamesRadar+).
CD Projekt Red previously confirmed that the fourth game in The Witcher franchise has at least 499 developers working on the title. One of those developers was the senior developer on Baldur’s Gate 3. Learn more about that at this link.
