Can You Play Helldivers 2 Solo?
The answer as to whether you can play Helldivers 2 solo is varied, as it’s both a “yes” and “no” due to how the matchmaking works. It’s possible to drop into a mission completely solo should you navigate to the settings and turn “Matchmaking Privacy” off the Public setting to Friends Only. Then, once you load into a game, you can play alone or invite a few friends to join you.
Most people don’t realize you can turn this setting to Friends Only, turning the game into a single-player shooter until you invite someone to your party.
Furthermore, depending on how the game’s servers run that day, you may play a handful of missions alone despite your settings. I can’t count the number of times I tackled Termininds solo because no one joined my lobby.

Does Helldivers 2 Have A Single Player Campaign?
While I can imagine the incredible setpieces, explosions, and memorable moments a single-player campaign in Helldivers 2 would add, it all remains there: in the imagination. Unfortunately, Helldivers 2 does not have a story mode or campaign to play through.

Do You Need Friends to Play Helldivers 2?
You definitely don’t require friends to play Helldivers 2, though it helps. I managed to get a few friends and even my wife to purchase and play the game, and I must say, the experience is many times more exciting with people you know.
If you don’t have anyone to play with, the game will connect you with other players, so long as your settings remain set to Public. However, most players join games on Medium and above.
