Can You Beat Bai Kru Tutorial Boss in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers?

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has you fight Bai Kru—a twisted version of your main character—as a tutorial. This boss is harder than some of Wuchang’s first few opponents, and it’s understandable to think you can’t beat this boss. Let’s see if that’s the intention.

The tutorial boss concept dates back to the inception of the Souls genre—Demon’s Souls. The Vanguard Demon barely gave you a second to look around before you were squaring off with your first boss. Many Soulslike imitators have followed suit and copied this cruel idea. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is no different, which is how we come to Bai Kru.

This gangly, hideous-looking creature is a bona fide eyesore in the watery arena where we find it. Bai Kru is boss, but is it beatable?

The Bai Kru tutorial boss is 100% beatable in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and requires you to be at the top of your game to do so.

Note: I haven’t beaten it, I’m just not that guy. Official confirmation comes from YouTuber AshesWolf, who posted a video of themself overcoming the brutal early-game challenge.

You don’t encounter this version of Bai Kru at any other point in the game—more on this below.

You get one chance and one chance only to beat Bai Kru at the beginning. With limited Manna Vase uses, you need to minimize damage as best as you can, make your attacks count, deal charged heavy blows where possible, and harness patience.

This fight takes several minutes at the very least. If you die, you’ll have to restart the game to encounter the boss.

What Happens if You Beat Bai Kru in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers?

You get five Red Mercury Essence skill points for beating the Bai Kru tutorial boss in Wuchang, and nothing else.

There’s no special piece of gear or weapon you miss for dying to the boss. But if you’re successful in the battle, you can spend an extra five Red Mercury Essence points to unlock additional nodes that other players ordinarily won’t get so early.

To be honest, if you’re beating Bai Kru, you probably don’t even need the Red Mercury Essence reward!

Is There a Trophy For Beating The Bai Kru Tutorial Boss in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers?

There is no trophy for beating the Bai Kru tutorial boss, and this isn’t to be confused with the “Monstrous Toddler – Bai Kru” trophy, which requires you to “Defeat Monstrous Toddler – Bai Kru.”

Monstrous Toddler – Bai Kru looks and has a lot of the same moves as normal Bai Kru—but they are treated as separate bosses. The former is encountered much later on in the game, and you get a trophy for beating it.

Bringing the tutorial boss to its feathery knees is a great feat, no doubt. However, there’s no trophy attached, so don’t panic about making your attempt count if you’re on the trophy and achievement hunt.

Check out AshesWolf’s video for a walkthrough of how to beat the fight and the aftermath.

Hopefully, that’s a huge weight off your shoulders. If you’re persistent enough, you can certainly eliminate Bai Kru. Let me know how you get on through the Insider Gaming forum.
