The file size and pre-load date for Borderlands 4 have dropped. The good news is that you don’t need to clear too much space on your hard drive, and the pre-load is happening very soon.
Borderlands 4 is one of the biggest highlights in a packed September 2025. Gearbox is so hyped for the game that the release date was brought forward. With the community excited for the review Embargo Date, the game’s potential file size has been overlooked.
After all, it looks like a big game. However, the team looks to have done an amazing job optimizing the looter shooter.
Borderland 4’s File Size is Very Generous

According to PlayStation Game Size (always accurate with these details), Borderlands 4 has a downloadable file size of 28.168 GB on PlayStation. Whereas the Xbox edition weighs in with a slightly heftier 29.5 GB, and PC owners get the short end of the stick once again with a 65 GB download.
We’ll admit that this is far smaller than we thought it would be—on PlayStation and Xbox, sorry PC owners. It might be a case of you not needing to delete any games at all to make room for the sequel. If you do have room, and you’re ready to get it installed, we can tell you that the Borderlands 4 pre-load date is September 10.
A day one patch might still arrive to disrupt plans, so brace yourself for any late additions.
