Get ready for a taste of history as Black Ops 1 & 2 ports are happening. The classic Treyarch shooters will be released for a new generation, but there’s some confusion about what they offer. This guide looks into everything you need to know about Black Ops 1 & 2 ports.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 were unexpectedly rated in Korea. It was curious timing, given that we’d only just learned about Modern Warfare 4 officially. Regardless, Black Ops 1 & 2 Ports are ready to go into the firing line.
When Are Black Ops 1 & 2 Ports Coming Out?

One of the few key details that isn’t known is when the Black Ops 1 & 2 Ports are releasing, but the anticipation is that it could be a shadow drop very soon, and they need to be available sooner rather than later, so as not to clash with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, or other big debuts.
The tail end of 2026 is being dictated by GTA 6. It’s more inevitable than Thanos, and as such, many games, including the year’s biggest AAA releases, are launching well before November.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is coming at the end of October, and there’s a lot between now and then. The most sense for two rereleased Call of Duty games would surely need to be in the quieter summer months.
Again, this is all speculation, but if they are announced soon, you’ll know here first.
Are Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 & 2 Ports Remasters?
No, these are marginally upgraded versions of the original files, and they are not considered fully fledged remasters in the same way the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 campaign remasters were.
The line here is quite blurred, as the ports allegedly do have improvements; we can thank datamining for this information.
RemasterRadar has said:
‘This isn’t a lazy 1:1 copy, and it isn’t Xbox-style backwards compatibility (running the old build as-is). Real work went in: new languages that weren’t in the originals, plus PS5-enhanced flags baked into the build. It can’t run on legacy PS3 servers either, so it relies on modern PSN online infrastructure. Not a full remake, but clearly an enhanced, worked-on port.’
We’ll have to wait and see the full extent of the ports, but it’s expected they won’t be marketed as proper remasters.
Will Black Ops 1 & 2 Ports Have Multiplayer?
More datamines suggest that both Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 will include a multiplayer component.
Referring to RemasterRadar and other accounts, it’s been discovered that ‘joinSession’ exists in the files.
This would only be present if you could join other players in matchmaking, etc. It’s in the files, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the final ports will include multiplayer.
Unfortunately, if they do have multiplayer, it seems that all data will be wiped, meaning even if you’ve dumped hundreds of hours into Black Ops 1 or 2 on your account, you must start all over again with a clean slate.
Black Ops 1 & 2 Ports File Sizes
Multiple sources have indicated that Black Ops 1 and 2 ports will be in the region of 9 GB to 30 GB.
Here’s the latest on Black Ops file sizes in different regions.
| Black Ops Versions & Regions | File Size |
|---|---|
| BO1 US | 22.7 GB |
| BO1 EU | 9.7 GB |
| BO1 JP | 9.6 GB |
| BO2 US | 30.3 GB |
| BO2 JP | 18.0 GB |
All Black Ops 1 & 2 Ports Platforms
Data suggests the Black Ops ports will be available to buy on PS4 and PS5, and while it’s not certain, there’s also a good chance they’re coming to Xbox and PC, with Switch 2 versions possible as well.
There’s no reason why these would only be on PlayStation; it makes no sense. I would definitely say we’ll see the ports on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Also, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, and it feels like a door has opened.
