After watching a couple of cut-scenes at the start of Dead Island 2, the first thing you have to do is “choose who will slay your way through HELL-A!” This is a Dead Island 2 way of saying “Choose your character”. There are six slayers to choose from – Amy, Bruno, Carla, Dani, Jacob, and Ryan – and each has different attributes, and two unique innate skills. Once you pick a slayer, you’re stuck with them for the whole game. And given that you have to make this choice before you’ve actually played any of Dead Island 2, it’s difficult to make an informed choice. The good news is that all six characters are worth trying out, and that each character is suited to a different play style. However, there is one character who stands out as the best all-rounder, and who is probably the best choice for your first playthrough.
Which Character is The Best in Dead Island 2?
The best slayer overall in Dead Island 2 is Jacob. While his Peak Health is especially high, and his Resilience is especially low, he’s otherwise a well-balanced character who is well-suited to pretty much any situation. His high Peak Health and Stamina mean that he can fight long and hard, and that you can afford to get reckless and make mistakes, especially early in the game. He also gets a minor damage boost when attacking in quick succession, which is a very simple skill to use, and one which is always going to be useful.
Jacob also gets a critical damage boost and Stamina boost when his Stamina is low, which also lends itself to a straightforward, button-bashing combat style (there’s not much gunplay in this game). The only downside of playing as Jacob is his low Resilience, but this is only an issue against enemies that deal status attacks such as fire and shock. You won’t meet many of those early in the game, although you’ll need to take care later on, as Jacob is more… er… flammable and conductive than the other five characters.
