Battlefield Studios outlined how classes will work in the upcoming title and left the door open for changes based on community feedback.
From May 23 to May 26, Battlefield is hosting a server performance test. The primary goal is to verify server performance and stability under the stress of increased player counts over a weekend. Players will have access to a select group of maps and modes.
If you want a spot in the server performance test, check out our guide on how to sign up. In addition to testing server strength, the upcoming playtest also gives players a chance to provide feedback on the new class system.
Battlefield Divides Class System Into Two Categories

The class system is divided into customizable and class-defining components. The devs explained how it works.
“The customizable components empower players to explore and push the boundaries of their roles within their chosen class while also still adhering to the expectations of the class.” The class-defining components are designed to enhance “pick-up-and-go” playability and reinforce the expectations of your class identity.”
So, each class has access to every weapon in the game, but gadgets and throwables are specific to classes. However, signature weapons and traits incentivize players not to stray too far from their roles. For example, you get increased breath-holding using the Recon class and a sniper rifle. Other classes don’t get that benefit while using a sniper rifle.
Additionally, Recon players automatically spot enemies while aiming down sights, which encourages the use of sniper rifles.
There will be another community feedback session in a few weeks to discuss how players feel about this system.
