According to the former president of Blizzard Entertainment, Call of Duty is going to receive a ‘boot stomp’ from Battlefield 6, which could be a good thing for the FPS genre.
The hype surrounding Battlefield 6 is unreal, with thousands of players flocking to the game’s beta. Before the beta even launched, over 200,000 players were waiting in line to play the game. Moreover, BF6 has surpassed almost every Call of Duty game on Twitch. But, is it enough to beat Call of Duty: Black Ops 7?
Former Blizzard President Thinks Battlefield 6 Will Force Call of Duty to Change
Spotted by GamesRadar+, the former president of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Ybarra, posted about Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty on his X account (formerly Twitter). Ybarra’s post states, “Battlefield will boot stomp” Call of Duty in 2025. He adds that the “real win” here would be that this competition will stop Call of Duty from being “lazy” and “better FPS” games can come from it.
Ybarra added in a follow-up tweet that Call of Duty has been going “downhill” for years. The game’s a mess, the former president adds, with issues such as “cheating, heavy UI/install, rainbow colors” and more present. Ybarra hopes that Battlefield 6 could be the game that changes things for Call of Duty.
A recent Insider Gaming exclusive report reveals that Activision is closely monitoring Battlefield 6. Still, leadership is not worried about the upcoming title as they feel Call of Duty is “too big to fail“.
In other news, Battlefield 6 beta has already been hit by cheaters, according to the recent clips surfacing online. Additionally, Call of Duty is relying on a 17-year-old character to drive pre-orders for Black Ops 7.
